What makes this town special are the perfectly maintained Bai architecture homes and way of life. The town is surrounded by carefully manicured lush lawns where you can enjoy the cool experience of having coffee, lunch or dinner while looking at or walking around the huge wheat fields. There are a number of small towns around Xizhou as well, so don’t be shy to leave the walls of the ancient city to explore the area.

We had a wonderful lunch at the boutique hotel that used to be the Yang Family Compound, and now owned by Brian and Jeanee Linden, an American couple that have contributed greatly to this town. Today the Linden Centre is not only a top-ranked hotel, it is also a venue for cultural exchange and an ideal place to start exploration of Xizhou and destinations further around Dali.
